Remember when I told you about how Hello Kitty was my Cheerleader?
She keeps following me around, popping up in various places like on the shoes left outside the yoga classroom or on the Band-Aids at Target, I’m reminded of the healing writing provides.
ICYMI, I spoke on the Ray Dolby Ballroom stage a few weekends ago at A Writing Room community retreat in Los Angeles. I’ve been a member of this community for the last year, founded by writers Anne Lamott, Sam Lamott, and Jacob Nordby, which has led to an epic year of personal creative growth.
I pitched the writing workshop I’ve created, “Ignite your Creativity through Journaling,” where I shared how a free-writing session about the first journal I remember having in third grade led to a memory about that year, which led to healing a deeply embarrassing and formidable moment in my childhood. The key point of this moment of my childhood was recalled and healed.
You can hear me tell the story of healing with Hello Kitty at the workshops.
Last weekend, I was a co-facilitator of a day-long retreat up in Joshua Tree where my portion was to lead the writing workshop. It was exciting to hold it in person, as most of the workshops I’ve led are online.
Participants reacted:
”Writing using your prompts helped me remember that art brings humanity together.”
“I am not a writer, but your guidance helped me realize this can be another way to understand the way I’m feeling.”
“I’m ready to start my journaling practice again.”
If you’d like to experience this workshop, watch this space for the next time I offer it before the end of the year. I’m currently scheduled to teach it twice a month at The Sukha Life yoga studio in Palm Springs.
