Last night, I was requested to lead an evening meditation at the spa hotel, where I guide guests into states of presence and relaxation. I was excited for the opportunity as it was the exact date of the Summer Solstice and the Strawberry Moon in this hemisphere. I had embraced the longer days coming and the desert heat becoming more oppressive, creeping temperatures up to 80 degrees at 8 AM.
A few hours before the guided meditation, I gathered my tools and wrote a new meditation, especially for this one-time event. Each time I guide students, I tell them that there will never be another moment like this, and we will never be together in this combination at this place again; I invite them to surrender to the NOW of this moment completely. Each time I spoke those words, it has also been a prolific reminder for me.
I was invigorated to create something special because I could feel the zest of vitality spark new life into my essence because of the sun. Summer has always been my “New Year” when I feel hope and a shift of energy. Anything is possible with more light each day. Earlier in the week, during an energy surge, I could see so clearly in a writing meeting that I guided her to possibilities in her writing. I guess all those years of recruiting and honing in on people’s skills and gifts never go away.
What is the Full Moon Meditation, and why should I do it?
The moon affects the tides of our oceans, and humans are made up of about 60% water, so it’s no wonder we may be drawn to this gravitational sway. Like the tide going in and out, our sense of wonder and unique energy can be harnessed with the full moon's energy and propel us forward in self-discovery and growth. It’s a time to release old patterns or begin something outlandish and take risks for vibrant adventures. The longer days allow it now!
The moon waxes and wanes, and our lives are a cycle of growth and rest. The full moon can signify a moment to pause and reflect.
When we practice meditation honoring this pause during the full moon, we can leverage this powerful cosmic event. It is a time to sit still and cast light on our deepest desires, fears, and aspirations while the moon lights up the night sky. We can tap into our natural rhythm with the world around us because we are that interconnected. The moon's gravitational pull has a quantifiable effect on the planet.
This particular moon on the Solstice is also known as the Strawberry Moon, which originated from the Native American tribes of Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota, which recognized the ripening of the June-bearing strawberries that are ready to be gathered and enjoyed. Yum!
As each long summer day shines on opportunities and possibilities, the moon supports us, too. Nature always provides, never asking for anything in return. We are truly part of this interconnected weaving of life itself, giving and receiving life with each breath we take. It’s good to remember, stop and reflect on this. We are all in this together and none of us will make it out of here alive. There’s a reason for the phrase “human nature” because we are all part of it. Be kind, reflect, have compassion for yourself, and extend this into empathy for others.
Let’s practice, shall we? Listen for the Full Moon Strawberry guided meditation. Then reflect and eat some strawberries while you journal all the possibilities you have created.
