Identity: From Roles to Souls - A new podcast feature on Meditations & Musings
A new podcast coming to Meditations & Musings - January 2024!
As the intensity of time marches on, I’m thrown off kilter continuously reconciling with the various identities I possess. We all have them, these identities fueled by a combination of our egos and reactions from daily interactions. Personally, my identity as a Jewish person is being challenged to be at the forefront since October. And while I have always been proud of my ancestry and heritage, it is not all of who I am.
We are all playing these roles of varying degrees many similar to one another in generic terms of daughter/son, mother/father, wife/husband, sister/brother, friend and worker. Let’s face it, there are expectations that come along with playing these roles and they can overlap. Even our political belief system or country plays into these labels we place upon ourselves. Sometimes, labeling ourselves as a “liberal” or “conservative” can have a negative connotation depending upon whom you are speaking with. And why do we even have to have these labels? I no longer identify with either of those labels but that’s an exploration for another time.
This is nothing new. However, in a world that is consistently overthinking, holding tightly to the need to be right it prevents humans from truly connecting. We cannot shut off our brains when we are listening to react causing unbalance. This epidemic of intensity and over analyzing, judging, fear is taking us deeper into grudges and creating grooves in our brain that cause depression, a greater negativity bias, or worse and they need smoothing over.
I truly believe that the path to peace within is through meditation as well as employing active listening skills. To see one another again in a place of kindness, a realm of goodness, harmony, embracing diverse personalities and individual interests.
Curiosity creates conversations
One thing you might not know about me is that I was a corporate recruiter for about 20 years. I have interviewed countless individuals to learn about their skills and backgrounds to find the special nugget to match them to the position. I would often bring out the candidate’s skills they forgot they had or their special talent to highlight. The candidate experience was of utmost importance to me. I wanted the person to feel comfortable, confident, and put their best foot forward for a good experience whether they were right for the role or not.
After all, people do remember how you made them feel.
This podcast will be an opportunity for a conversation with creators and artists of all mediums to explore how our spiritual lives inform our worlds, art, creating, expectations and how we can begin to listen to one another more to create a better world.
My first interview will be with artist, Virginia Shepley whom I believe is a transcendental artist. I have been admiring her work for a few years now and am so excited to have a conversation with her about her art and process.
“In the process of creation and being in the present, I am able to tame and transcend emotional fluctuations.” - Virginia Shepley
I want to know more! Don’t you? And look at this one example of her creations.
In future episodes, I will also explore topics like parenting and mental health as a path to spiritual growth and connection.
I currently have a jewelry craftswoman, a somatic healer, an author and a psychedelic artist lined up for the coming months.
While there are many physical wars going on right now, we have wars going on within our own life’s subtleties within our cycles of incessant thinking, in our choices.
We can shift and move into self-care and peace with small acts that can ripple out into the world. Elevate the mundane into spiritual connections revealing the truth that exists in every human being, soul to soul, between the finite and the infinite.
And I believe connection and exploration of thoughts can create these moments of beauty for our world.
