Changes are hard and exciting.
Welcome to “Meditations & Musings,” a literary publication, life observations appearing as memoir, criticism, and social commentary—sometimes combined in the same piece.
I write as if I’m talking to my friend who is actively listening, engaged in the swirl of life with me, beside me. I weave questioning spiritual thoughts of consciousness as if they were downloaded from somewhere in hopes they will provoke the reader’s authenticity and curiosity. I contradict myself as my brain may not remember what it said a few months ago for this is called excavating for truth or exploring, like for a mystical stone yet to be discovered. I am speaking to only you, engaging you to be an active listener in the present moment, not reacting or responding, but letting the words seep into you so you then decide how you will face your own vulnerability. There is always more to say.
I am Durga, a name given to me by Ram Dass, a fierce warrior Hindu Goddess who comes out when I need to take someone by the lapels and make them listen to me, to make them touch their own humanity.
I am Mom, a weaver of nurturing caring goodness through all the house manager duties from nourishment to listening. I am a mental health advocate, fighting for an understanding of psychosis and thought disorders. I am a wife, friend, daughter, sister, niece, and cousin, bringing it all together to be what is needed from all these roles. And most of all, I am myself, a sovereign woman who will not be defined by any of these roles and titles for it is only me who truly knows what it is like to hold on to my unique stories, thoughts, visions, and dreams.
I see the commonality of it all stemming from either love or fear of my choice alone to decide. We are all the same. We are all different.
We see things as we are, not as they are.
This is a community here on Substack and I hope you will engage. It is my hope you will share your vulnerability, gleanings, and thoughts in response to my own.
Most of all, I hope this stack will give you pleasure, curiosity, and an awakened heart. I believe vulnerability will change the world, and it begins with you.
In gratitude,
Durga
